The “Call of the Wild” series provides viewers with a glimpse of Canada’s most ferocious predators at their most feral moment. Depicted on the front of the coin is a Canadian cougar, baring its teeth as it lets out a menacing growl. Further emphasizing the power of its intimidating growl are the stylized soundwaves that appear in the background behind the fierce feline. Its almost as though its cry has been artistically amplified. Also worth noting on the front of the coin is the maple leaf-shaped privy mark with the last two digits of the coin’s mintage year. This new detailed design is meant to serve as a security feature that inhibits any counterfeit attempts. Lastly, engraved along the outer edge of the coin are its purity, weight and country of issue.
The reverse side of the coin has been engraved with an uncanny likeness of HRM Elizabeth II. She has been carefully rendered in exquisite detail from her poised countenance to her signature pearl jewelry. The presence of this beloved ruler’s profile on the back of the coin is meant to illustrate Canada’s ongoing reverence for both its mother nation and the monarchy. Encircling the dignified effigy are the Queen’s name along with the coin’s denomination and mintage year.
