Description
Britannia’s history in the British Isles dates back to the 1st century AD, and now she is available in a breathtaking new design on silver bars for sale from the Royal Mint of England.
Each of the 10 oz British Silver Britannia Bars available in this product listing marks the first-ever issue of a Britannia design on a Royal Mint bullion bar.
When the Roman Empire expanded beyond its continental European borders in the 1st century, the British Isles was its first target. Once the Romans had occupied as much of England as it could, the province became known as Britannia. Over time, Britannia came into being as a mythical figure that Britons believed protected the Isles from invaders.
The Royal Mint of England was founded in 886 by Alfred the Great and unified as a singular minting system in 1279. Jody Clark, who worked with the Royal Mint on Queen Elizabeth IIs fifth-generation portrait on coins, created the vision of Britannia on these bars.
