Napoleon III originally came to power in 1848 and would rule until 1870, but his reign saw tumultuous times.
Napoleon III was the first democratically elected President of France when he rung in the French Second Republics era. It was short-lived though as he staged a coup in 1852 as his time as President of France came to an end. He reinstituted the empire with the Second French Empire and ruled as the Emperor of France from 1852 until 1870 when he was forced into exile.
On the obverse of 100 Francs Gold Coins in this listing is the right-profile portrait of Napoleon III. The portrait includes Napoleon III without a crown or laurel wreath and includes a full head of hair with his signature goatee beard. Engravings denote the ruling emperor and his title.
The reverse of the Francs Gold Coins available to you here feature one of two possible designs. Some 100 Francs Gold Coins have a laurel wreath surrounding design that includes the legend in the center of the face value and year of issue. Other Francs Gold Coins could feature the coat of arms for the Second French Empire along with the face value and date mark in a different arrangement.
