PLEASE NOTE: THESE COINS ARE EITHER PCGS OR NGC GRADED AS MS62 CONDITION AND WILL BE FROM YEARS OF OUR CHOICE, ALL 1856-1889.
In 1856, the United States Mint released the final revision of the $1 Indian Gold Coin, which became known as the Type III version. Unfortunately, due to the Act of September 26, 1890, the United State would no longer allow gold coins to be produced in $1 and $3 denominations. As a result, this Indian Gold Coin would be both the last $1 coin as well as one of the last pieces of gold currency to ever be produced in smaller sizes by the country.
All the Type II coins in this collection have been classified by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) or the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) as an MS62 (Mint State) grade coin with a gold content of .048375. Coins with an MS62 grade are worn from hairline and contact marks, but are still considered to be in acceptable condition. As a means of protection, each coin has been kept in the NGC or PCGS certified vinyl case in which they were examined.
The final artwork revisions seen on the Type III Indian Gold coin demonstrates the newfound sense of identity that was permeating the United States as a country. One such change was the portrayal of Lady Liberty on the front of the coin. Instead of wearing the inscribed tiara from the previous design, she wears a stylized version of the Native American headdress to symbolize how their culture had begun to integrate with ours.
Similarly, the original border of thirteen stars was replaced with our nations name to acknowledge the new states which had joined our nation. The third major change involves the wreath appearing on the reverse side of the coin. Rather than using a non-descript wreath to acknowledge the agricultural industry as a whole, the wreath now featured different crops to recognize the individual farming regions. This definitive design captures the diverse cultures and industries that made America so great.
