Description
Direct from its collection of Pre-1933 American Gold Eagles, Wall Street Metals is pleased to present the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Double Eagle was first commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 as a part of his campaign to beautify US currency. As one of the few coins produced prior to the US’s discontinuation of gold currency, the $20 Double Eagle possesses an exceptionally high fineness of .900. Such purity makes it an ideal asset for individuals wishing to augment their portfolios or IRA’s.
Coin Highlights:
- Composed from .9675 troy oz of .900 pure gold
- Issued by the US Mint with a $20 (USD) face value
- Features the artwork of Augustus Saint-Gaudens
- Available in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Condition
The obverse of the coin features Augustus Saint-Guadens’ acclaimed rendition of Lady Liberty. This classical portrayal of the beloved icon depicts her in an ancient toga with her long hair, billowing in the wind. She stands atop a mountain summit overlooking the Capitol building, much like the gods of Mt. Olympus. With her left hand bearing a torch and her right hand holding an olive branch, she represents the ideals of enlightenment and peace that result from freedom of thought. Also emphasizing the optimism of this image are the beams of light radiating behind her.
The reverse side of the coin displays yet another celebrated US icon, the bald eagle. It is seen proudly soaring through the clear skies above the radiant sun. From the intense focus of its eyes to its powerful wings, Saint-Gaudens has exercised great care in providing a dignified portrayal of the national bird. Equally as impressive is the detailed texture of the eagle’s feathers.
