Description
Designed by the famous coin engraver Jody Clark, the 2018 Black Bull 1/4 oz Gold Bullion Coin is the fourth from a series of ten-coin designs known as the Queen’s Beasts.
Also known as the Black Bull of Clarence, it has been issued by the Royal Mint in platinum, Royal Mint in Gold, and Royal Mint in Silver since 2016.
Used presently by the United Kingdom as a commemorative denomination, they are not in general circulation although considered legal tender.

A symbol of the UK’s national history, the Black Bull of Clarence descended to the Queen through King Edward IV.
The shield shows the Royal Arms as they were borne by Edward IV and his brother King Richard III and all the Sovereigns of the Houses of Lancaster and Tudor.
The Queen’s Beasts heraldic statues, representing the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II, were commissioned by the British Ministry of Works from sculptor James Woodford.
